 WWE'S "Hot List"
WWE.com has a weekly ranking system called the "Power 25," but I find it too arbitrary. It seems to be based too much on what is happening that week, so I don't think it can gauge who is truly popular over the long term.
So I came up with my own power list, which I update every month. It is constructed according to number of recent appearances in pay-per-views since February 2010 (when WWECW ended), height on a PPV card, number of PPV victories, and how recently one appeared. RAW Superstars alternate with SmackDown! Superstars on the list, with those from RAW always ranked higher. Female Superstars are generally ranked lower than male singles Superstars but higher than male tag Superstars.
NOTE: Undertaker and Triple H are not on the list because they have not been seen - or at least not often - in some time, while Beth Phoenix has completely fallen off the list due to her injury.
The "Hot List" for July/August:
1. John Cena 2. Rey Mysterio 3. The Miz 4. Big Show 5. Chris Jericho 6. Kofi Kingston 7. Randy Orton 8. Drew McIntyre 9. Sheamus 10. Jack Swagger 11. Edge 12. CM Punk 13. R-Truth 14. Kane 15. Ted DiBiase 16. Montel Vontavious Porter 17. John Morrison 18. Matt Hardy 19. Hart Dynasty (David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd) 20. Christian 21. Evan Bourne 22. Layla 23. Mark Henry 24. Michelle McCool 25. Eve Torres 26. Cody Rhodes 27. Maryse 28. Dolph Ziggler 29. Alicia Fox 30. Kelly Kelly
I understand that this list is probably going to be controversial. Well, I welcome the debate. Argue away!

 Re: WWE'S "Hot List"
Kane is the World Heavyweight Champion, and has been destorying everyone in his path for over a month. He should be ranked higher. MVP should be ranked lower, because he hasn't done much lately.

Kofi has been wrestling (in pretty good matches, to boot) every week on Smackdown. Layla is the only one who WWE recognizes as a champion. Also McCool has lost more than Layla has recently. Sheamus has been running scared recently, and Orton made him look like a Punk last week. Cena has been facing insurmountable odds everyweek. He looks strong, even in defeat. Rey is the former champion, who only lost because he was forced to wrestle his 2nd match of the night, injured, with no preparation. He also got the better of Kane (the current champ) on the end of last week's show. Now that I think about it, Orton should be #1. Kane #2.

 Re: WWE'S "Hot List"
The problem with a pro wrestling ranking list is that no matter how scientific it is, it can't predict anything because the bookers often seem to like throwing us a curve. Who could have predicted, for example, that in June 2007 Candice Michelle, who up until that point had been famous in the ring for....well, pretty much nothing, would win the WWE Women's Championship? Or that Sheamus - a man whom you might not have even known existed if you weren't watching ECW on SciFi on Tuesday nights - would become WWE Champion last December?
If I had to rank all WWE Superstars between 2006 and 2010 (when the company offered three brands), it would probably start out like this:
1. John Cena 2. Batista 3. CM Punk 4. Randy Orton 5. Undertaker 6. Rob Van Dam 7. Triple H 8. Edge 9. Tommy Dreamer 10. Jeff Hardy 11. Chris Jericho 12. Christian.

 Re: WWE'S "Hot List"
And the rest of the list:
13. Sheamus 14. Rey Mysterio 15. Big Show 16. Shawn Michaels 17. Ric Flair 18. King Booker 19. Jack Swagger 20. Great Khali 21. Bobby Lashley 22. Umaga 23. Mr. Kennedy 24. Kane 25. John "Bradshaw" Layfield 26. Mark Henry 27. John Morrison 28. Vladimir Kozlov 29. Montel Vontavious Porter 30. Matt Hardy 31. Kofi Kingston 32. Finlay 33. Chavo Guerrero 34. Shelton Benjamin 35. Chris Benoit 36. Ezekiel Jackson 37. William Regal 38. The Miz 39. Big Daddy V 40. Santino Marella 41. R-Truth 42. Elijah Burke 43. Drew McIntyre 44. Carlito 45. Sabu 46. Gregory Helms 47. Hornswoggle 48. Dolph Ziggler 49. "The" Brian Kendrick 50. Ted DiBiase 51. Jimmy Wang Yang 52. Super Crazy 53. Kenny Dykstra 54. Matt Striker 55. Cody Rhodes 56. Sim Snuka 57. Chris Masters 58. Sandman 59. Marcus Cor Von 60. Zack Ryder 61. Kevin Thorn 62. Shannon Moore 63. Jamie Noble 64. Funaki
After this we get into "jobber" and tag-teamer territory, at which point I pretty much have to stop the list!
